Next to the collapsed Maini Bridge, the Bailey Bridge is under the supervision of the army

It may take three weeks to restore the collapsed Bailey bridge over Maini river at Dighinala in Khagrachari. However, at this time, temporary bailey bridge and alternate roads are being constructed there under the supervision of 20 Engineering Construction Battalion (20 ECB) of the Army to keep traffic flowing through Maini river. Officials of 20 ECB said that small vehicles will be able to move through the temporary bridge tomorrow Saturday afternoon.

Earlier on Tuesday around 10:30 am, a truck carrying stone collapsed while crossing the Bailey Bridge on Maini River. The length of the bridge is said to be 110 meters. From the day after the accident, 20 ECB started construction of temporary Bailey Bridge and alternative roads on both sides.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muhammad Arafatul Alam told Prothom Alo that after the collapse of the Maini bridge, small tourist vehicles going to Babuchhara, Kabakhali, Rangamati's Baghaichhari, Baghaihat and Sajek are crossing through the new bridge which is one kilometer away from Thana Bazar. However, the bridge is short, causing long traffic jams on both sides. Apart from this, heavy vehicles are being crossed by making temporary roads on both sides of the newly constructed bridge in Hutchinspur area two kilometers away.

Going to the Maini Bridge area this morning, it was seen that the workers were busy opening the nuts and bolts of the broken Bailey Bridge. Construction of another temporary Bailey bridge is underway next to the bridge. The workers are spending busy time building the road across the river with bulldozers and excavators to build alternative roads on both sides of the bridge. Concrete and various tools have been brought in big trucks to build the bridge.
